Over time, things change, including this blog – so time for an update. yes, there will still be randomness, because I tend to specialise in that, but there will be very little, if anything, about running. Who was I kidding? Runnning? Me? Not gonna happen. I still like my quilting, and reading, and baking, and photography but most of my recent posts have been about card making, which I've rediscovered. The other stuff still makes the occasional appearance but not so much so.

the start of the day....
It is stupid o'clock on a saturday morning - I struggle to be up and about on a week day at this time so why on earth would i want to be up and about at 7.00am on a saturday. So I've decided I'm going to go back to sleep for an hour or so, and come bacck and finish this later when I'm a bit more awake

Adventures in Nutwood
For those of you who are avid Create and Craft watchers, you may have seen last week's Pick of the Day - Rupert Bear (no "the" in his name). I'm supposed to be on a frugality phase, but it doesn't seem to be working. Sometimes the delivery times from C&C are appalling, but this was fairly good. I ordered it on Tuesday night and it arrived today (Monday)
So of course, I just had to drop everything and play.
The artwork is taken from the covers of the Rupert Annuals between 1936 and 1950 (so that's 30 images plus extra decoupage bits). I received a cardmaking pack for making tunnel card books and a CD for tunnel cards (at least that's the tagline, it will probably get adapted). I used the images from the card pack that I liked the least, so that way I wouldn't mind too much if I wasn't happy with the result.
I'm ok(ish) with it, but it would have been so much more professional if I had used a paper trimmer (rather than a little scissors), had done it at the table (rather than on my lap) and also had taken my tea things out to the kitchen (rather than leave the curry plate nearby). Plus I should have double checked the folds before I stuck things on them, but that's only really bugging me because in reality it doesn't look too skewiff.
So here it is

I love the effect so I will be much more careful with the next one.
More stuff tomorrow

a knitted flag
I've just finished knitting the front of a cushion cover which I believe is going to be a sample on the telly!!!
It needs to be blocked - never done that so let's hope I don't ruin it. I need to find instructions on the best way to do it. The yarn used is Aran weight - 40% wool, 60% Acrylic. I just managed to finish the front with one 100g ball.
Catch you later folks

migraine - how inconvenient
As you can probably tell from the title of this post, I've had a migraine. I've slept the whole day away, sent my son out for tablets, and then slept some more. But now I feel much better and am doing some knitting. Along with 2 scarves, I am also knitting a sample for Create and Craft - maybe one day fame will come knocking.
I have also finished another part of the dance costumes - I will be going to the show, so hopefully will be able to take some photos of the costumes in action.
i didn't make the leotard, but I did add the frills, or, as I like to call them - fruffles.
But for now, back to the knitting and a cup of tea. No chocolate and wine for me tonight because I have a feeling they could well be the culprits for today.

Sparky pants
Doing sewing for a pal who's daughters are in a dance show - these are sparkly pants, along with a skirt and a waistcoat. I've also done a white waistcoat and a pink lycra outfit, but I forgot to take photos of them
I did not sew on the sequins.
I've got sleeves to finish to go with the skirt, then sew them into a leotard. And I think, 2 more tops.

A little bit of knitting
Hey folks
Over the past week or so I've done a bit of knitting. I have watched a bit of Create and Craft (channel 671 on Sky in the UK). Can also watch online on http://www.createandcraft.tv/ On this craft channel, not only do they do lots of papercrafty stuff, they also do other things, one of which is knitting. I was particularly taken with some products made using the yarn Flamenco. This yarn is a bit like a fishnet ribbon type yarn, and you knit into the holes, but was a little put off by the price, so hadn't ordered anything. Then 2 of my work colleagues came in one lunchtime both having bought this "fancy" yarn. The next day, one of them came in wearing a scarf she'd made with it. I don't think it was the same yarn, but it gave a very similar effect. She told me she bought it "in the market" but she'd paid £10 for the ball, and it was only £8 in Cwmbran (which is where I live). Which actually made the price on C&C seem quite reasonable, because it was 3 balls, the pattern and the knitting needles for about £24.
So then I went shopping, I went "to the market" to the only stall that I know sells wool/yarn. And they had the exact same yarn in there that is on the telly, and it was £3.50 per 50g ball. So I bought 2 balls of citrus green in Flamenco "floating" This is yarn which changes colour from one end of the strand to the other. The other type is Flamenco "twin" which is a different colour on each side of the yarn. It would be so much easier to explain if I'd had the sense to take a photo of the yarn itself. I'm still in the middle of knitting the citrus scarf, but went back the following day and bought a corally colour to make a flower or two.
So here's the pic of the flower, and the mini scarf I made. I did make another flower, but gave that to a friend. Not bad for one £3.50 ball of yarn.
Might get pics of sparkly pants tomorrow

Some stuff about the stuff in the blog
Hello
Very new at this blogging lark, so forgive me if I get a bit befuddled. User name is derived from my maiden name of George and the fact that by the time the Olympics are held in the UK in 2012, I will look as if I could compete. And not as a sumo wrestler.
For starters there is only one blog with contain my thoughts, but this might evolve into 3 or 4 when I work out what I'm doing.
In the main it will cover my slimming journey, my quilting exploits, my get fit and stay fit campaign, and my photography. Not forgetting my recent TrollBead obsession.
Should I ever get a lovelife you might get glimpses of that as well.
